The International Medical Education Conference (IMEC) is a forum for forging and renewing friendships among educators of healthcare professions from around the world, providing a platform to exchange ideas and experiences and showcase innovations.
Health professions education is entering a transformative phase, in which educators are extending their roles to navigate evolving expectations, emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, and shifting priorities across education and healthcare. Educators face increasingly complex challenges, including balancing competing demands on their time, integrating novel pedagogical approaches, responding to diverse learner needs, and adapting to rapidly changing work environments.
This conference provides a platform for rigorous intellectual engagement and interdisciplinary dialogue, enabling participants to explore these challenges, examine current trends, and consider strategies to support critical reasoning, professional identity formation, and client-centred service. The discussions are especially timely given the increasing complexity of environmental and sustainability issues, alongside the imperative to incorporate values-based education.
Through collective reflection and knowledge exchange, the conference highlights and enhances the health professions educator’s role as a thoughtful, future-oriented leader in modern health professions education.
The subthemes of this conference are the following:
- Innovations in Teaching and Learning
- Value-Based Education, Professionalism & Ethics
- Curriculum Design, Holistic Approach and Integrative Education
- Assessment and Evaluation
- Technology-enhanced Learning and Artificial Intelligence
- Governance and Leadership, and Sustainable Practice
- Faculty Development
Gateway scope:
This Gateway showcases work presented at the IMEC 2026 conference, and includes non-peer reviewed content such as, e-poster presentations, oral presentations, pre-conference presentations slides and main conference slides. These formats provide early visibility of developing knowledge, and allow authors to publicly display important supporting work to their research in a shareable and citable format. Presenters are asked to ‘opt-in’ to this service so the content does not capture the entirety of what was presented but an overview is available via the abstract book.
Eligibility:
All presenters who have had an abstract accepted will have been offered the opportunity to publish their poster or slides with an administrative fees of RM290 in the Gateway and those who opted in will have been sent full instructions on how to submit their work. Posters and slides are not peer-reviewed but will be allocated a DOI and will be shareable and citeable.
