About this Collection
Health Professions Education faces an array of challenges to keep pace with the everchanging needs of populations. Ethical concerns, inadeuquate funding, accreditation practices and traditional curricula are all contributing to unprepared medical graduates.

Some of the major challenges and changes include an increased emphasis on interprofessional educaiton, the use of technology and attending to social determinants of health. The field has not been able to develop alongside the challenges facing the healthcare system; such as high costs of healthcare, concerns of health equity, racial disparities and shortage of skilled healthcare providers.

Research into the challenges and goals of health professions education for future and current health professionals is needed. It is crucial that researchers continuously evaluate the essential knowledge and skills surrounding medical education and the optimal methods for teaching and assessing ethics in relation to changing social, political, technological and cultural developments.
